After a lot of deliberation and research, I realised that the theatre company that inspired me the most in terms of their work was one we had watched in class. I chose PigPen. I found their work interesting and innovating. I think we can apply a lot of their ideas into our collaborative piece.
I chose PigPen because their theatre includes a lot of the elements we are considering for our collaborative piece. They use a mix of shadows, live acting and music to put on a complete performance. I thought this was really effective and actually wonderful to watch.
There was a drawback that we weren't professionals. But wasn't that the point? That we learn.
In TOK we talk about how different ways of knowing like imagination, reason, sense perception, etc. PigPen used their theatrical intelligence to tap into unique imaginations. They then present it in a way that completely captures all the senses.
I think we can use their technique of multidimensional shadows, music and story telling and then incorporate it into our piece.

This effect reminds me of Cooleridge's' suspension of disbelief. They completely de-thrown it by making beautiful shadows that are clearly being held up by human hands. The hands don't take away from the performance but instead add to it because it displays simplicity in the art form and shows the humans behind the magic.
This was another technique they employ which I thought was great. In a very simple way, they show the inner workings of the mind. By placing a light in the front with a person to create the shadow it also causes more interaction with the audience because the performers are not merely behind a curtain.
